Development[edit]
Between 2006 and 2014, Tor Books published Halo novels, which were intended to establish an “expanded universe” for future Halo content, with elements from the novels such as Orbital Drop Shock Troopers and orbital defense platforms making their way into Bungie’s games.

John-117 and some SPARTAN-IIs try to gather information about the Covenant in the first year of the Human-Covenant War in this Master Chief story by Troy Denning and Scott Brick. Blue Team returns to Reach to recover assets from Dr. Halsey’s abandoned laboratory in this sequel to Silent Storm.

Do you need to read the Halo books in order?
Fall of Reach, Flood, First Strike, and finally Ghosts of Onyx are the four books I recommend reading first, in this order: Fall of Reach, Flood, First Strike, and finally Ghosts of Onyx. The rest of the books can be read in any order, but the trilogies should be read in order (for example, if you read Cryptum, you should read Primordium, then Silentium).

Which Halo novels should I read?
In this order:
- The Fall of Reach (Probably the most important)
- This is where The Flood would go if it wasn’t crappy/a book version of Halo 1. You won’t miss anything if you skip it.

- Ghosts of Onyx.
- Cryptum.
- Glasslands.
- Primordium.
- The Thursday War.
