40 classic books & why you should read them
What makes a classic book? I’ve chosen 30 examples of fiction and 10 examples of non-fiction books. Because I’m not studying literature at university, classic books must be readable for me. The prime example is Moby Dick, which I have read and will never recommend. The most recent book on my list is Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy from 1974, which I’m concerned is too recent for the ‘classic’ tag.
