Waldenbooks
Waldenbooks, a subsidiary of Borders Group, was an American shopping mall-based bookstore chain that also operated a video game and software chain under the name Waldensoftware and a children’s educational toy chain under the name Walden Kids. The chain was liquidated in bankruptcy in 2011.
History
Lawrence Hoyt (1902u20131982), a former sales manager for Simon, became the first African American man to be elected president of the National Association of African American Men (ANA) board of directors in Washington, D.C. on March 4, 1933.
Acquisitions
Waldenbooks was acquired by Kmart in 1984 and opened a discount book outlet chain called Reader’s Market in 1985, but after disappointing sales figures, Walden discontinued the discount bookstores a year later.

On July 16, 2018, Netflix released a teaser for the third season of Stranger Things, which was designed to look like a 1985 mall advertisement but was actually a cosmetic restoration of the Gwinnett Place Mall in Duluth, Georgia.
