What are the Top Books to Give a Non-Christian?
Christians should give these seven books to non-believers who they hope will become believers, according to Christianity Today. These seven titles are based on my personal experience of hearing stories of how people have become believers, as well as an assessment of the apologetic and evangelistic value of each book.
1. The Gospel of John
If someone is open to spiritual truth, nothing is more powerful than being confronted with the teachings, miracles, and person of Jesus Christ. The Gospel of John is a great book for non-Christians to read.
2. Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
Lewis does an excellent job of articulating and defending core Christian beliefs (hence the term “mere Christianity”). His presentation of the moral argument for God’s existence is simple, clear, and powerful.
3. More Than A Carpenter by Josh McDowell
This book is framed by my father’s personal journey of attempting to disprove Christianity as well as his search for happiness; however, the true power of the book comes when he discusses how the truth of Christianity changed his life personally. Buy from Amazon.com or your favorite bookseller.
4. The Reason for God by Timothy Keller
Pastor Keller’s book addresses issues that deter some people from becoming Christians, such as Christ’s uniqueness and the claim that Christianity should be more inclusive, as well as providing positive evidence for Christianity from science, history, and philosophy. Order from Amazon.com or your favorite bookseller.
5. Simply Christian by N.T. Wright
Simply Christian not only provides evidence for Christianity, but it also clarifies the heart of the Christian message and explains what it means to follow Jesus. Wright is a rare author who can speak truth in a poetic and compelling manner.
6. The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel
The Case for Christ is already a classic; Strobel presents the Gospel with clarity and force; he is both a great thinker and an excellent storyteller; and because it is written in a conversational style, it draws readers into Strobel’s personal journey to faith.
7. The Reason Why Faith Makes Sense by Mark Mittelberg
Giving a book to a non-Christian is a great way to evangelize, but don’t let it replace genuine interaction with the person you’re giving it to. Mark Mittelberg, Lee Strobel’s ministry partner, has recreated a classic called The Reason Why.
