Battle of the Books
NCSLMA sponsors Battle of the Books competitions for elementary, middle, and high school students. Students at participating schools read books from a list established by state committees and compete in quiz-bowl-style tournaments to test their knowledge of these books.
What is Battle of the Books 2020?
Elementary Battle of the Books is a county-wide reading competition for students in grades 4 and 5. Each year, approximately fifteen books are chosen to be featured in the competition, and each team of up to 12 students reads and becomes an expert on the fifteen books.

What is EBOB?
EBOB is a book club in the sense that students are required to read 15 books chosen by an EBOB council and are then quizzed on the plot, characters, and setting of each of the 15 books during the competition.

How many people can be on a Battle of the Books team?
Teams of up to five people can compete, and team members do not have to be from your homeroom or team. Teams are encouraged to choose a name and dress alike for the competition.
Is Battle of the books copyrighted?
Members are not required to compete in any county or state competitions; however, America’s Battle of the Books is run by a volunteer staff of educators and librarians, and our logo, questions, program, and competition format are all copyrighted.
