The standard one-inch margins in Word are great for many writing applications, but they’re not always the best choice for book printing. Mirror margins are different because the inner margins (the ones closest to the book’s binding) must be larger than the outer margins to avoid text being cut off.

Word 2007

Choose Page Setup and then Margins from the Page Layout tab, then check Mirrored Margins in the dialog box that allows you to choose the dimensions of your margins (right, left, top, bottom).

Word 2010 & 2013

Depending on the size of the image being created, you can select different inner and outer margins.

Word 2008 & 2011

Click the Mirrored margins box after selecting the dimensions for each margin (right, left, top, bottom, bottom), then choose Document from the Format menu.
