Skyrim Black Books guide: how to become Hermaeus Mora’s best pal
Hermaeus Mora is the Daedric Prince of Memory and Knowledge, and he has taken it upon himself to disperse the powerful Black Books throughout Skyrim’s Solstheim.
You’ll be taken to Hermaeus Mora’s realm of Apocrypha after finding and reading each book. There are tasks to complete, enemies to defeat, and puzzles to solve, with rewards ranging from skill point increases to a summonable Daedra merchant (seriously). You’ll need to find all the chapters to get to the end.
Black Book: The Sallow Regent
The Sallow Regent is a tricky book to use because the darkness will harm your health. Make your way to the end of the Barrow, fight the Dragon Priest, and then find the Black Book beneath the balcony at the end. Arachnophobes beware: there are a lot of spiders here.
Black Book: The Winds of Change
Find Raven Rock Mine and follow it all the way to the end of Bloodskal Barrow, where you can defeat the Dragon Priest Zahkriisos and enter the Black Book, where you can fight your way through the world and avoid the tentacles that jump out of the water.
Black Book: Untold Legends
Untold Legends is located at the end of Benokngerike, a Nordic ruin. Inside, you’ll find a lot of Rieklings, so fight your way through until you reach the Word Wall. Apocrypha will take a long time to complete, so watch the video below for a quick walkthrough of how to get to the end.
Black Book: Epistolary Acumen
The Gardener of Men quest is triggered by reading the Black Book, which is a Dwemer ruin east of Solstheim near Tel Mithryn. Use the scrye to lower the bridge in front of you, and then jump onto the now-lowered bridge. Kill the lurker and seekers waiting for you in the arena. Use the scrye underneath the font of magicka to get to Epistolary Acumen.
Black Book: Waking Dreams
After finishing Solstheim, you’ll be transported to Apocrypha, where you’ll fight Miraak in his temple. Don’t forget to pick up the four books from their pedestals along the way, as they’ll unlock the final area’s gateway.
Kill any seekers in your way and make your way up and down the stairs. Gates will open in the distance, so go through them to get to chapter 4. Use the scrye to open gates opposite you on the lower floor. Match up four pedestals to their respective books to open the way to Miraak.
