Stephen Bonnet
Stephen Bonnet is a pirate, smuggler, sometime murderer, and all-around bad guy who meets Jamie and Claire Fraser as they leave Charleston, South Carolina for the Outlander books.
Personal History
Bonnet was orphaned at a young age in Sligo, Ireland, and grew up to be self-sufficient by working as a cabin boy aboard trading ships until he was 17 years old, when he found work in Inverness building a house. Bonnet was almost used as a human sacrifice to fulfill an ancient custom.

In 1770, Roger Bonnet is sentenced to death for smuggling tea and brandy, and Brianna taunts him by revealing her pregnancy and telling him that he is the father.
The Fiery Cross
Bonnet flees from Jamie and Claire Fraser during an illegal autopsy in 1771, stealing Lucas, the Friesian stallion Jamie had won off Wylie, and Roger and Jamie go to meet (and attempt to kill) Bonnet in 1772.
A Breath of Snow and Ashes
Brianna MacKenzie is kidnapped from River Run by Neil Forbes and given to Bonnet in 1775. Bonnet does not rape her this time, but only because she reveals she is pregnant. They capture Bonnet and deliver him to the authorities. Brianna takes a boat out to the harbor and shoots him in the head as the water reaches his head.
Physical Appearance
Bonnet was a few inches shorter than Jamie, with a slightly crooked nose and a small scar by the corner of his mouth, a tall, powerful frame and a barrel chest, coarsely handsome features, and pale green eyes, according to Claire’s assessment.
Trivia
Bonnet is unable to read or write, so he does not accept receipts or paper money as payment; instead, he relies on gold or intrinsically valuable objects for his daily needs.
