Enchanted Book
An enchanted book is an item that allows players to use an anvil to add enchantments to specific items. This article is about the book that can enchant items; for the artifact that can enchant allied mobs in Minecraft Dungeons, see Enchanter’s Tome.
Fishing[]
Enchanted books can be obtained as part of the “treasure” category by fishing with a fishing rod; the book has the equivalent of a level 30 enchantment from an enchantment table, but treasure enchantments are available, and the chance of multiple enchantments is not reduced.
Trading[]
Enchanted books are bought for 1 book and 5-64 emeralds in Bedrock Edition, with treasure enchantments (such as Mending) doubling the cost.
Drops[]
Vindicators and pillagers spawning from raids have a small chance of dropping an enchanted book with a level 30 enchantment, which could be a treasure.
Enchanting[]
Enchanting a book on an enchantment table gives it a lower chance of getting multiple enchantments and a lower “enchantability level” than most other items. Treasure enchantments, such as Mending, cannot be obtained from an enchantment table.
Bartering[]
Bartering, chest loot inside a bastion remnant, fishing, and raid loot are the only ways to get Soul Speed enchanted books; they cannot be obtained through enchanting or trading. Players can barter with piglins for Soul Speed books by using or throwing gold ingots.
Usage[]
Enchanted books are the only way to get certain enchantments on certain tools in Survival, such as Unbreaking on shields. To use an enchanted book, the player must first place an item in the first slot of an anvil, then a book in the second slot. Enchanted books have a shine effect on their sprite.
Available items[]
Enchanted books can increase the strength of enchantments like Sharpness and Thorns. The table below only shows netherite tools and armor, but any type can be enchanted. Enchanted books can apply the following enchantments to items (the table below only shows gear and armor):
Creative mode[]
In creative mode, the player can enchant any item with any enchantment, allowing any applied effects to manifest. For example, a stick can be enchanted with Silk Touch to allow the player to dig grass blocks successfully, and the enchanted item can still be used in Survival mode without losing any enchantments.

Is it worth enchanting books in Minecraft?
Enchanting the gear can give you more enchantments, but it can also cost you diamonds if you mess up the enchantment; on the other hand, books are more reliable, but they waste EXP and only give you one enchantment at a time.
Is it better to enchant books or weapons?
