Readers ask: What Spiderman Books Are In Continuity?

Full Amazing Spider Man Reading Order | Dan Slott Comics Timeline

Because The Amazing Spider-Man is now a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s time for a Modern Marvel Spidey reading order guide. This is a sometimes complicated continuity, so make sure you have plenty of spare web cartridges and possibly a clone on hand.

Quick Caveats & Tips

Stick to AMS if you want the cleanest possible route through Spidey’s continuity; I’ll do my best to avoid spoilers for those who aren’t up to date.

Bonus Update – The 10 Best Spider-Man Stories Before 1998

I’ve compiled a list of the best Spider-Man comics of all time, and the collection above will give you an idea of how much you might enjoy these early issues; if you want, I can put together a reading order for you to read all of Spidey’s appearances in the 1960s.

Revenge of the Goblin & Flowers For Rhino

The Revenge of the Goblin story arc begins with issue #1 and ends with issue #25. It features a lot of Norman Osborne and a lot of references to late 90s continuity (with MJ in particular).

The J. Michael Straczynski Amazing Spider-Man

The JMS and John Romita JR Collected Editions are available now. JMS took over the writing duties on Amazing Spider-Man in 2001 and didn’t relinquish the title until 2007. There are some controversial moments in JMS’ early work, but overall I’m a fan of JMS’ early work.

One More Day

Spider-Man: One More Day is the latest in a series of Spider-Man crossovers, and it may be the most divisive and frustrating thing that has ever happened to the characters, and I say that fully aware of the Clone Saga.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day – Joe Kelly, Dan Slott, Mark Waid, Zeb Wells & More Form the Spidey Brain Trust

The Amazing Spider-Man team-up with Dr. Strange brings Peter Parker back to his roots, and JMS’ six-year run on the title comes to an end. AMS switched to a three-issue-per-month publishing schedule, which means the numbering quickly approaches #700.

The Spider-Islander crossover results in a slew of one-shots and tie-ins, the majority of which can be found by browsing by series on Marvel and typing “Spider-Islander” into a search browser. I won’t link to all of them because I’d like to go outside today.

The Superior Spider-Man & Marvel NOW!

Superior Spider-Man is one of my favorite developments in recent years, and Dan Slott’s run on the character is a blast. I recommend picking up the Spidey sections of the Marvel NOW! reading order, which includes every Spider-Book comic from 2012 to 2015.
