Readers ask: What New Testament Books Did John Write?

The Gospel of John

The Gospel of John is a firsthand account of John’s life and experiences with Jesus while He was on earth: “I saw glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).

First John

The Apostle John wrote this letter to the church as a whole, rather than to a specific church in the Roman Empire, in order to provide another eye-witness account of what “we have heard, which we have seen” (1st John 1:1).

Second John

John’s letter to the church is addressed to all believers, not just those who know the truth; it was written for “the lady chosen by God and her children, whom I love in the truth” (2nd John 1:1), which is all that matters in the end.

The Book of Revelation

This is the Apostle John’s final writing, but it is not his book because he was not the inspiration for it; the events are not his own; they are about events that the Lord took him up into a vision and wrote down.

The Gospel of John is by far my favorite gospel because it contains writings about Christ’s divinity, love, and suffering, as well as assurance for believers (John 6:37, 39, 10:28-29).
