“Fifty Shades Freed” is the third film adaptation of E. L. James’ erotic romance series, and according to Entertainment Weekly, it’s as bad as one might expect. The vows of Christian and Ana are heartbreakingly conventional; where are the references to domination and submission, to flogging and spanking? They have tasteful, from-a-far, no-nudity sex. This may be the worst advertisement for marriage ever. Ana recognizes the intruder as Jack Hyde (Eric Johnson), the former boss who attacked her.
Ana’s rise from Nice Girl Next Door to Senior Editor is depicted as meteoric. Christian makes Ana promise to come home from work immediately while he’s out of town. He gropes her and she laughs.
Ana’s job is to stand around and wait for Christian to come in grumpy or whisk her away, while Elliott and Kate are engaged and Jack is arrested for no apparent reason.
