Uses
In modern times, the most widely used RTL writing systems are Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Urdu; Syriac and Mandaean (Mandaic) scripts are derived from Aramaic and written RTL; and several languages have both Arabic RTL and non-Arabic LTR writing systems.
Current scripts
The N’Ko script (Nkoo 165) was created in 1949 for the West African Manding languages, and the Garay alphabet was created in 1961 for the Wolof language Adlam (Adlm 166).
Ancient scripts
Pahlavi scripts (130u2013133: Prti, Phli, Phlp, Phlv) derived from Aramaic. Ancient Phoenician alphabet (Phnx 115) u2013 precursor to Hebrew, Imperial Aramaic, and Greek. Nabatean alphabet (Nbat) u2013 intermediate between Syriac and Arabic.

The Ethiopic script has been written from left to right since the 4th century AD, when Ethiopia became Christianized, whereas most early Etruscan texts are written from right to left. Boustrophedon appears only rarely and not particularly early.
